A Broken Childhood, an Unbroken Dream: Umme Farwa’s Story At an age when children should only worry about school and playing with friends, Umme Farwa from Gilgit is carrying a very heavy burden. She is a bright Grade 5 student who dreams of becoming a doctor so she can help people in need. But on May 30, 2026, her life completely changed. Her father, Zakir Hussain, fell from a roof and suffered a severe spinal cord injury that left him permanently paralyzed. Overnight, he could no longer work, and her family lost their only source of income. Farwa’s mother tried her best to save the family by working as a private school teacher. However, her small salary is not enough to cover house rent, daily food, expensive medical bills, and school fees for three children. The financial struggle became so hard that Farwa almost had to leave school. Even through all this pain and worry, Farwa never gave up. Sadaf Uzair’s Gift Brings Mobility and Hope to Ali Khan in Gilgit-Baltistan Surrounded by the magnificent mountains and valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan, many remote communities continue to face a lack of basic facilities. Reaching these areas often requires travelling for hours across broken roads, steep mountain paths, and challenging terrain. For people living with disabilities, these conditions make everyday life even harder, as limited mobility can affect their independence, comfort, and ability to participate in their communities. Ali Khan’s life changed on January 20, 2014, when he fell from an electricity pole and acquired a permanent disability. Since that tragic accident, moving around and carrying out everyday activities has been a constant struggle for him. After years of living with these difficulties, Ali received a wheelchair delivered to his doorstep by volunteers working in the northern areas. For him, it is more than a mobility aid it represents greater independence, renewed confidence, and the freedom to move through daily life with dignity. Expressing his gratitude, Ali said, “I am extremely thankful for the wheelchair provided to me. A Gift of Freedom from Dilshad Meknoji, Komal Hussain, and Malik Hussain in Lower Chitral Niaz Support has always believed that dignity should reach people wherever they are, even in the most remote and difficult areas. This belief recently took our team to Lower Chitral, where long distances and challenging mountain roads could not stop us from reaching people who had been waiting for comfort, mobility, and a better quality of life. For someone who has spent years depending on others to move from one place to another, a customised wheelchair is not just equipment. It is freedom, confidence, and a chance to live each day with more independence. The first beneficiary was Ibadul Haq, a 27-year-old man who lost his ability to walk due to polio in childhood. Despite the challenges he faces, Ibadul Haq continues to live with purpose and self respect. He teaches computer skills to children with disabilities and writes newspaper articles to support his family. His customised wheelchair was generously gifted by Dilshad Meknoji. For Ibadul Haq, this wheelchair will make daily movement easier and help him continue his meaningful work with more comfort, confidence, and independence. Nine-year-old Ali Akbar, a young boy with cerebral palsy, received his customised wheelchair through the kindness of Komal Hussain. The moment he sat in his wheelchair, his face lit up with joy. He placed his hands on the wheels and began moving by himself, enjoying a simple but powerful moment of freedom. Lal Muhammad received his customised wheelchair through the generosity of Malik Hussain. He has been living with a T10 level spinal cord injury since a car accident in 2009. He uses a urine bag and his daily life is difficult, but he continues to manage it with patience, courage, and dignity.
