Saira’s Journey from South Punjab: Hope and a Customised Wheelchair Gift by (Late) Muhammad Iqbal Abubaker
Saira is a young girl from South Punjab, Pakistan, living with polio. In her home, she is not the only one facing this challenge—two of her siblings are also persons with disabilities. Despite these difficulties, she continues to show strength, patience, and resilience. Her story reflects the reality of disability in Pakistan, where many families struggle silently due to limited awareness, support, and resources.
Saira often reflects on the possible cause of the situation in her family, pointing towards cousin marriage, which can sometimes increase the risk of inherited health conditions. Instead of giving up, she has chosen to turn her struggle into purpose. She now works as a volunteer for persons with disabilities, supporting others and spreading awareness about inclusion, dignity, and self-acceptance.
Recently, Saira received a customised wheelchair, gifted by the family of (Late) Muhammad Iqbal Abubaker in his loving memory. This thoughtful gesture has given her greater mobility, independence, and renewed hope for the future. She expresses deep gratitude and prays for the soul of Late Muhammad Iqbal Abubaker and for his family. With the support of initiatives like Niaz Support, her journey stands as a powerful reminder that compassion can transform lives, especially for young girls living with disability in Pakistan.
